Deutsch im Anschluß...

First of all - to say this to all current and future applicants for the position: It was and is both a pleasure and an honour for me to be part of Team Freestyle working under new, so to speak, trial conditions. I was very happy to see that my suggestions regarding the curation rules were accepted, at least for this team, as a test. This gives us much more freedom to distribute our votes to good authors without being restricted by formal guidelines. I remain firmly convinced that in this way valuable contributions to the Steem can be promoted more strongly than before, and possibly a stronger bond to the platform can be achieved among those bloggers who have newly come into focus. Overall, this would increase the attractiveness of the Steemit universe as a source of information and entertainment in the medium term.

Well, it was of course a relief of the work involved to no longer have to check the contributions for club affiliation and bot use of the author and for Steem exclusivity. Still, it represents a considerable workload if you really take the task seriously: Sifting through and studying contributions that one would probably not have dealt with privately. Plagiarism checks in different languages using different tools. Profile checks. Making sure that no other curator account has yet voted on the same post. And so on...

Time-consuming, sometimes nerve-wracking. And this is where my dissatisfaction starts: The complete release of topics leads to teams getting in each other's way. I would like to positively mention @chiabertrand, who is active in another team and often drew our attention to excellent contributions that he was not allowed to promote himself according to his guidelines. Thank you very much for this collegial gesture! In addition, the randomised team composition meant that we had to spend more time coordinating with each other and defining common goals than was feasible within a normal working day. Of course, this is exactly what I wanted: non-homogeneous groups of curators who do not all follow the same pattern. However, the implementation does not seem to me to have been good so far.

I am very happy that, despite these obstacles, we are still able to support some wonderful authors, some of whom are surprised that they are getting any attention at all from the "big" accounts. Sad in my eyes because they have deserved it for so long....

Oh well. So I think the system is expandable. Since everything is fluid here anyway and has to be understood as a process, that's a good thing. My suggestions at this point: get away from the teams! I myself am not a good team player, I think. And if other candidates feel the same way, this jumping-into-cold-water-together is more exhausting and gruelling than curating itself. New approach: individual curators. A soloist doesn't have to coordinate with anyone. One person alone. Not for a month, probably not even for a whole week. Maybe 6 days, alternating with one other person at a time. Each person is responsible for themselves; the "partner" checks everything against and thus safeguards the voting process against possible challenges. Yes, it might be more time-consuming for the Steemit team. Keys would have to be generated more often, direct contact would have to be maintained with more different curators. Much more, if it were up to me - there shouldn't be 30 curators or 40, but from 100 upwards. With a regular rotation of these positions, there is automatically an enormous range of appointed readers, interests, standards and evaluations, so that in the end really no one should be dissatisfied.

I will make another suggestion in @o1eh's Suggestions Club in the days to come - namely, it has nothing to do with curating and the "official" Steemit initiatives in terms of content.

It leaves me with a bad feeling when the values of the Steemit team (there are people behind the sc01 and sc02 accounts, after all...!) and those of good, deserving and respected Steemians drift apart like this. It seems time for all sides to pause - and reorient themselves. I need eye-to-eye conversations between all stakeholders for another attempt to get personally involved and participate in the development of the Steemit community. To draw on a term from my work environment, I am waiting for a transdisciplinary approach to the future vision for Steem... ;-))

Do I categorically exclude my "official" collaboration in one way or another forever? No, of course not! I will remain active on the Steem, writing and reading as before. I communicate and am happy about every like-minded person. I will stay in touch with you! And I'll wait and see what happens soon in the Steemit universe.

VR experiments at the German Aerospace Centre... - I'm looking for the future on different places ;-)) / VR-Experimente im Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtzentrum... - Ich suche an verschiedenen Orten nach der Zukunft ;-))

Zunächst – um das allen derzeitigen und künftigen Bewerbern um die Position mit auf den Weg zu geben: Es war und ist mir Vergnügen und Ehre zugleich, dem unter neuen, sozusagen Erprobungsbedingungen, arbeitenden Team Freestyle anzugehören. Ich war sehr froh zu erleben, daß meine Vorschläge hinsichtlich der Kurationsregeln zumindest für dieses Team testhalber angenommen wurden. Dadurch haben wir viel mehr Freiheit, unsere Votes ohne Beschränkungen durch formale Richtlinien an gute Autoren zu verteilen. Ich bleibe fest überzeugt, daß auf diesem Weg wertvolle Beiträge auf dem Steem stärker gefördert werden können als bisher und eventuell auch bei jenen, neu in den Fokus geratenen Bloggern, eine stärkere Bindung an die Plattform erreicht wird. Insgesamt würde dadurch mittelfristig die Attraktivität des Steemit-Universums als Quelle der Information und Unterhaltung steigen.

Nun, es war natürlich eine Erleichterung der anfallenden Arbeit, die Beiträge nicht mehr auf Clubzugehörigkeit und Botnutzung des Autors und auf Steemexklusivität überprüfen zu müssen. Dennoch stellt es ein erhebliches Pensum dar, wenn man die Aufgabe wirklich ernst nimmt: Beiträge sichten und studieren, mit denen man sich privat wahrscheinlich nicht auseinandergesetzt hätte. Plagiatsprüfungen in verschiedenen Sprachen mittels unterschiedlichen Tools. Profilchecks. Sicherstellen, daß noch kein anderer Kurator-Account denselben Post gevotet hat. Und so weiter…

Zeitraubend, teilweise nervenaufreibend. Und hier fängt meine Unzufriedenheit an: Die komplette Freigabe der Themen führt dazu, daß sich die Teams untereinander in die Quere kommen. Positiv hervorheben möchte ich an der Stelle @chiabertrand, der in einem anderen Team aktiv ist und uns des öfteren auf hervorragende Beiträge aufmerksam machte, die er nach seinen Richtlinien nicht selbst fördern durfte. Ich danke sehr für diese kollegiale Geste! Außerdem war die randomisierte Teamzusammenstellung ursächlich dafür, daß wir mehr Zeit für die Abstimmung untereinander und ein Definieren gemeinsamer Ziele aufwenden mußten, als innerhalb eines normalen Arbeitsalltags gut leistbar war. Natürlich bediente genau das meinen Wunsch nach nicht homogenen Gruppen von Kuratoren, die eben nicht alle nach dem gleichen Schema verfahren. Die Umsetzung erscheint mir jedoch bislang nicht gut.

Ich bin sehr froh, daß es uns trotz dieser Hemmnisse anhaltend gelingt, einige wunderbare Autoren zu unterstützen, die sich teilweise überrascht zeigten, daß sie überhaupt Beachtung finden von den „großen“ Accounts. Traurig in meinen Augen, weil sie es schon so lange verdient haben…

Nun ja. Ich halte das System also für ausbaufähig. Da hier ohnehin alles fließend ist und als Prozeß verstanden werden muß, ist das etwas Gutes. Meine Vorschläge dazu an dieser Stelle: weg von den Teams! Ich selber bin kein guter Teamspieler, glaube ich. Und wenn es anderen Kandidaten ähnlich geht, ist dieses zusammen-in-kaltes-Wasser-springen anstrengender und aufreibender als das Kuratieren selbst. Neuer Ansatz: Einzelkuratoren. Ein Solist muß sich mit niemandem abstimmen. Eine Person alleine. Nicht für einen Monat, vermutlich nicht einmal für eine ganze Woche. Vielleicht 6 Tage im Wechsel mit jeweils einer anderen Person. Jeder ist für sich selbst verantwortlich; der „Partner“ checkt alles gegen und sichert damit den Votevorgang ab gegen eventuelle Anfechtungen. Ja, für das Steemit-Team wäre es ggf. aufwendiger. Es müßten öfter Keys generiert werden, es müßte mit mehr unterschiedlichen Kuratoren direkter Kontakt gepflegt werden. Viel mehr, wenn es nach mir ginge – es sollten nicht 30 Kuratoren sein oder 40, sondern ab 100 aufwärts. Mit einer regelmäßigen Rotation dieser Positionen ist automatisch eine enorme Bandbreite an berufenen Lesern, Interessen, Maßstäben und Bewertungen gegeben, so daß am Ende wirklich niemand mehr unzufrieden sein dürfte.

Einen weiteren Vorschlag werde ich die Tage im Suggestions Club von @o1eh unterbreiten – der hat nämlich inhaltlich nichts mit Kuratieren und den „offiziellen“ Steemit-Initiativen zu tun.

Es hinterläßt ein ungutes Gefühl bei mir, wenn die Werte des Steemit-Teams (hinter den sc01- und sc02-Accounts sitzen immerhin auch Menschen…!) und die guter, verdienter und respektierter Steemians so auseinanderdriften. Es scheint an der Zeit, allseits innezuhalten – und sich neu zu orientieren. Ich brauche für einen weiteren Anlauf, mich persönlich zu engagieren und mich an der Entwicklung der Steemit-Gemeinschaft zu beteiligen, Gespräche auf Augenhöhe zwischen allen Interessenvertretern. Um einen Begriff aus meinem Arbeitsumfeld heranzuziehen: ich warte auf eine transdisziplinäre Herangehensweise an die Zukunftsvision für den Steem… ;-))

Schließe ich meine „offizielle“ Mitarbeit auf die eine oder andere Art für immer kategorisch aus? Nein, natürlich nicht! Ich bleibe aktiv auf dem Steem, schreibe und lese wie bisher. Ich kommuniziere und freue mich über jeden Gleichgesinnten. Ich bleibe in Verbindung mit Euch! Und ich warte ab, was demnächst so passiert im Steemit-Universum.
