Ageing...

Frank and Susan, both well over eighty years old, were not surprised to discover one day that they were increasingly forgetting everyday things. Puzzled by this, they consulted their doctor to ask him how they could remedy this problem.

The doctor gave them the cautious advice to first write down what was important, then they would only have to look at the note to make sure what they were about to do.

So it happened that the senior couple was sitting in the living room in the evening, as they often did. Frank got up and said, "I'll make us a little something to eat. What would you like today?" "Bring me a yoghurt, please. But remember what the doctor said. It's best if you write it down, then you won't forget it." "I can remember that you want a yoghurt. I really don't need to write that down." "But I'd like some cream on top. You should write it down, otherwise you'll forget." "I'll still be able to remember that you want a yoghurt with cream on top. No need to write that down." "But a few raspberries as a garnish would be nice. Honestly, you should write it down. I'm sure you'll forget..." "My dear, I can remember very well that you would like a yoghurt with cream and raspberries. I'll remember it."

After twenty minutes Frank returned. In his hand he held a plate with scrambled eggs and ham. Susan looked at him for a long time and then said, "I told you that you had better write it down. Now you've forgotten my salad..."
