Esta fotografía la tomé el día de ayer, 1 de noviembre de 2022, con la cámara de mi teléfono Samsung A32 durante mi paso por la Plaza Grande, mientras me dirigía a realizar algunos pendientes.

Como muchos de ustedes sabrán, en distintas partes de América Latina se tiene costumbre dedicar los dos primeros días de noviembre a honrar a los que ya no están con nosotros; algunos van a los cementerios a limpiar las tumbas de sus seres queridos y adornarlos bellamente con flores de cempasúchil y veladoras, mientras que otros levantan altares en su honor. Esta última tradición aún se encuentra presente en algunos hogares de Mérida así como en la mayoría de las poblaciones de Yucatán. Incluso tiene un nombre propio: Hanal Pixa'an (janal pishán; "comida de difuntos"), ya que en el altar se colocan los platillos y dulces favoritos del fallecido; así mismo, en familia se elabora y consume el acostumbrado Pib (pastel / torta de masa de maíz nuevo con carne de cerdo, pollo y res) con una taza de chocolate o una botella de refresco de cola.

As many of you know, in different parts of Latin America it's customary to dedicate the first two days of November to honor those who are no longer with us; some go to the cemeteries to clean the graves of their loved ones and decorate them beautifully with cempasuchil flowers and candles, while others build altars in their honor. This last tradition is still present in some homes in Merida as well as in most of the towns in Yucatan. It also has its own name: Hanal Pixa'an (janal pishán; "food for the dead"), since the deceased's favorite dishes and sweets are placed on the altar; likewise, the family prepares and consumes the customary Pib (cake made from new corn dough with pork, chicken, and beef) with a cup of chocolate or a bottle of cola.
