The special feature of this cave today is neither the cave decorations nor the endemic species, but the church that is located in the cave.
The cave was named after Saint Anthony the Hermit who lived in the area of today's Egypt from 251 to 356. Many hermits have lived in the cave for centuries.
Two altars and the stone basin it was has remained from the decoration and equipment in the interior of the church.
The oldest preserved part of the church inventory is the stone basin with 15th century inscription. The stone basin is always filled with potable water dripping from the cave walls.
