Portal of the 'Last Judgment' on the west door of the cathedral.

The Cathedral of St. James was built for almost 100 years, it was built by many famous and respected builders, sculptors and artists of that time.

Gothic part of the western façade is dominated by the portal of the 'Last Judgment', by Bonin of Milan, created in the first phase of construction (1431-1441). He is an example of the "ready-made" Lombard-Venetian architecture of his time.

A double belt of pointed arches of decorated twisted pillars (in the shape of a coil), between which are the figures of the 12 apostles forms the inner frame of the portal.

The outer frame of the main entrance to the church, twisted pillars with two large canopies (a square eaves as protection of the statues from the rain in Gothic architecture), was later added by Juraj Dalmatinac.

In the upper, renaissance part of the façade, a large rosette was made by Bartholomew of Mestre (1531), and a small rosette on a semicircular gable by Ivan Mestičević from Zadar (1536).
