The great Croatian sculptor and builder Juraj Dalmatinac carved 71 heads on the apses of the Šibenik Cathedral of St. James, which are considered a masterpiece of Croatian sculpture.

Based on comparisons with preserved portraits of prominent personalities-rulers, dukes, military leaders and church prelates, who worked in the fifth decade of the 15th century, it can be established that several more heads depict portraits of statesmen and warriors who, like John VIII Palaeologus (Byzantine emperor ), were involved in the anti-Turkish war.

Are they portraits of ordinary people, George's fellow citizens and passers-by, or are they some influential people, no one can still say for sure.
