RE: How Does Steemcurator01 Support Affect Authors' Behavior?
There are even shelled kindergartens and hospitals.
I had heard this but wasn't sure whether it was true or not. I think Amnesty International reported it earlier today.
Putin has realised at this point that the consequences to his actions are insignificant. The West will not engage him in war so he will act with impunity. Especially since he is so old now, that even if he is "punished" in some way, he'll be dead before he sees the consequence of his actions. He's a mad man with nothing to lose - much like Mugabe was at the end of his presidency (which notably, he also kept changing the law to stay in power). We should all be really, really scared of Putin's mental health.
I wonder if people in Britain are discussing the war between Russia and Ukraine? At work, in transport, anywhere.
I don't go out enough to notice - it's the main story on the news, you can't turn the TV on without hearing about it. So I can only assume it is being discussed - of course, everybody is an expert. Thinking that the World needs to do more to stop Russia. But our leadership is talking tough - because we can afford to. The EU has more to lose if Russia cuts off their gas supply. So they're being weak.
Now on to another topic
It's hard to lighten the mood. Although I'm pleased to see that you've got 11 players out without Canales 🙂
I wasn't sure if you'd be able to do the curation tomorrow and I'm glad I can help.
I like your idea to introduce filters in the new interface. It is only necessary that the user can activate them. This may be the "DISABLE SHIT" button. Otherwise, there will be someone who will accuse you of bias.
I think that phase 1 will very much be the ability to find the content (i.e. tags) you're interested in more easily. I'm probably going to move away from communities (to some degree) so that you search for content based upon interests, not where it's been posted. Especially removing the need to scroll past 100 pinned posts.
The VIP users could work in such a way that people are nominated (by an existing VIP user) and the group grows slowly. I don't know. The functionality's there along with the ability to sort posts.
My next bit of coding is to create another profile or script that will review all of the posts that each steemcurator has voted on so that it's harder to abuse that privilege. Highlighting post information like how long the post is, whether a comment was left (when scammers cheat, they don't leave a comment) and then include wallet details - linked accounts, who they transfer to. Stuff like that. I want to make it so hard to scam, that you either get caught, or deserve the rewards!
Today I have really more boring news :) Today I was buying various household goods, food, gasoline. Logistics have been disrupted due to the fighting, so it is expected that there may be a shortage of products in stores. Many bridges have been blown up.
In the evening there was an air alarm again. We had to go to the shelter. Not much fun, as much as it scares the child.
Today, Western countries have approved more substantial sanctions, which makes us happy. Russia's disconnection from SWIFT is especially gratifying.
There were fewer battles today as the Russians regrouped. They are preparing a more powerful blow to Kyiv.
Our intelligence says Putin is furious. This is a sick man, he can't lose. I'm afraid he might think of the red button.
I enjoy your boring news 🙂
My understanding is that Russia's still in SWIFT but the decision to block them will come soon. Germany's been particularly cautious in making these decisions but they appear to have turned a corner recently.
It was good to see the additional support being promised yesterday - the practicalities of how this will happen are things that could cause lethal delays but the signs and intent are there.
I wonder if many countries delayed their support with the expectation that Ukraine would instantly lose the war and didn't want to put themselves in a position where they've said something that would enrage Putin without helping Ukraine. But the resistance Ukraine has shown has made them realise that they can do the right thing and perhaps the Ukraine can remain independent and free from liberation.
It's also possible that they were also waiting to see if the Ukrainian people would welcome Russia. Once so many took a gun to fight, it was clear that Russia wasn't welcome.
There are many fears surrounding Putin. The war has not gone as easily as he had hoped. He has recruited the Chechen rebels who he can now use to inflict heinous human rights abuses that he can distance himself from. Not to mention the expectation that nuclear and chemical weapons will be deployed as he becomes increasingly desperate. He has a history of using illegal chemical weapons on his enemies and as an old man who has lost so much, it wouldn't come as a great surprise for him to literally go nuclear.
I eagerly await your boring update 🙂
Haha, I have really boring news today, so I didn't write anything, I was waiting for something more interesting.
I was at work today. We produce anti-tank hedgehogs, provide transport for the needs of territorial defense, provide shelter, provide labor for defense needs.
Many refugees come to us, and together with the refugees are enemy saboteurs. That's why we organized groups to patrol the streets. Several sabotage groups have been identified in the last 3 days, but I do not know their purpose. So far, they have been gathering information, photographing military and civilian objects.
We have no hopes for the ongoing negotiations. I think they are arranged for us to abandon them. Then Putin will take some much more terrible steps.
There was not even an air alarm today. But it is usually announced late in the evening.
We also have a curfew from 22:00 to 07:00.
Unfortunately, attacks on residential buildings continue. Kharkiv suffers the most. There are other facts of crimes against humanity. 16 children have already died during this war.
We are impressed by the solidarity of the whole world with our people and we truly thank everyone for that!
It took a little while but fortunately, it appears that it wasn't too late. The support is impressive though, I don't think I've ever known such a co-ordinated response from all of North America and Europe. You'd hope that it was enough to make even the most ardent Putin supporter think "hang on, why does everybody think that what we're doing's wrong?"
It appears that the financial sanctions are having the desired effect too so as much as Russia is saying "it's no problem", it's got to be hurting. All of this has got to be hurting, the question now is whether Putin can be man enough to walk away. I suspect not.
Nobody here is expecting much to come from the talks but... you never know!
What's an anti-tank hedgehog? It sounds cool.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Very cool image !!!
I don't know what it's called in English, so I used a literal translation. Apparently nonsense came out. Anti-tank hedgehog is this:
Source.
I wanted to write to you yesterday about anti-tank hedgehogs, but I had to sit in shelter all evening and midnight. Good neighbors, the Belarusians, launched rockets across Ukraine.
Ah, I don't know what we'd call them. I think my version will be effective too 😅
How are things today? I've not heard the outcome of the "peace" talks but given the number of tanks heading for Kyiv, I assume they ended as expected.
Belarus has nothing to lose now - They've been thrown into the same camp as Russia so might as well join the invasion. Russia has a new story - that it is worried Ukraine will start to develop nuclear weapons.
Our national news didn't mention this bit - but am I correct in thinking that Ukraine is the only country ever to have given up their nuclear weapons (in 1994 I think)? I'm sure I read this recently.
You are right, we are the only absolute idiots who have thought of doing so. This was done under pressure from the United States and Russia. At the same time, the Budapest Memorandum was signed, which allegedly guaranteed us territorial integrity. It turned out that with that memorandum you can go to the toilet.
Today there is information that the first Belarusian troops have already entered the territory of Ukraine, but I am not sure of its authenticity. However, we expect an invasion of Belarus.
You are right again. Our president said that he did not see negotiations, only ultimatums. This is unacceptable. In addition, the enemy fired on residential areas of Ukrainian cities during the talks. We already saw this in 2014. This is their vile tactics of pressure.
We have more and more air alarms. This is the effort of our Belarusian neighbors. From there, military planes and missiles fly to the territory of Ukraine.
Vitali Klitschko (formerly a famous boxer, now mayor of Kyiv) said today that reinforcements had arrived for the Russians, they had regrouped their troops and were advancing on Kyiv. He says the situation is difficult.
So, before the next round of talks there will be another battle for Kyiv. The results of this battle will affect the positions of the negotiators.
We've seen a lot reported again. There are reports of civilan areas being bombed, cluster bombs and vacuum bombs being used - as yet, unconfirmed. It was reported via a satellite that the tank convoy heading to Kyiv is 40km long - Putin desperate to get this finished before EU and NATO support arrives.
I've heard nothing reported here about Ukraine's disarmament back in '94. I certainly wonder if Russia would have been so intent on war if there was the risk of Ukraine going nuclear. It's sad to see you're essentially being punished for doing the right thing 28 years ago.
If it comes down to a street fight in Kyiv - My money will always be on Vitali. Especially if his brother's at his side.
