My ArtVenture: Watercolor painting “Gula” or the eyes that captivated the world
Hello my dear Steemians and Art Fans,
Today I wanted to present you my latest watercolor work that I have finished last evening. Few years ago I have seen a beautiful portrait a young girl, on the cover of National Geographic.
When I saw it I could not stop staring into those eyes, they had so many colors: dark blue the outer edge, light blue then, ochre with a bit of burnt sienna and the middle is deep, endless black.
The other thing that I was fascinated that this glance had so much fear for the war and wish to have finally peace and security. Somehow I felt that these eyes were calling people to wake up and stop that crazy war, the girl was from Afghanistan, she was a refugee in the camp in Pakistan.
The National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry, made that picture with the permission of Gula, that was just a quick random picture that appeared on the cover of National Geography in 1985, that immediately became very popular and touched the hearts of many people.
In 2002 almost 17 years later Steve found the girl who now became a mother of three daughters, despite of so many years she still had the same glance and the same expression of the eyes.
