There is this saying in pidgin that's says
Trouble dey sleep, yanga go wake am
And i will just tell you in my own way, let the sleeping dog lie else be ready for what comes next.
Affiong was already prepared for the meeting, she had on her late mother's dress.
Uncle Efe had called for an 'emergency family meeting' and had repeated that every single person must be in attendance.
The D-day came and the family meeting began with the eldest Uncle Efe, welcoming all and sundry who had attended. Just then the fit of temper began; typical of many family meetings.
Fingers pointed at Affiong on why she has vehemently refused to let in the remains of her late mother's properties which they all eyed and claimed it was their rights too.
In all of these Affiong remained calmed assuring them that what she is doing is in the interest of her and her siblings and wouldn't misuse the leftover of her dear mother in her care. She never knew her father.
But they didn't have it, they kept spurring words at her, even a cousin who she thought was on her side was hurling insults to her amazement, and landed Affiong a slap for being so adamant.
So then, hell let loose...
Affiong held her by her arms and flew her the other wing of the room, to the amazement of all
'Hmmmn...she is truly her mother's child,' one whispered and there was an euphoria of laughter by all.
