DIGNITY IN LABOUR

During my last contest, I spoke about the “tales of a struggling nigerian” and how the political class keep acquiring wealth when they enter power and sending their children overseas, while the citizens wallow in penury. Some try to follow short cut to make it and end up in prison, while some try gambling thinking it’s the only way out but end up making the pundit more richer…

Despite all this challenges facing the average and the poor Nigerians, we’re are still resilient and thriving to make something meaningful of our lives. Our “ never give up “ attitude runs deep in our veins. Most times, you see people who are in university mocking the struggling lady selling food on the road side just to make a living but unaware that could be their fate if they don’t have godfathers, sugar daddies or politicians to connect them to get a good job. Some out of shame might end up in prostitution just to cover up their fake lives

Job vacancies is now done in secrecy or base on connections because the companies or government parastatals are scared that they might be unable to control the crowd that are seeking for jobs. Sometime ago, during our former president regime, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, when he made announcement of job vacancies in immigration services. Because of the crowd that came for the interview in different states, there was stampede and there was records of people who lost their lives and people loosed their certificates in the quest to get a job.

Tell me, why the politicians won’t find it easy to convince youths to pick up arms to kill for them during politics, tell me why people won’t see military, kidnapping and banditry as a means of livelihood after the government has failed to provide job for them. But some people have chosen to follow the right path of living by “recycling of cartons, tins and plastic bottles. It might not be the best of job but he is making an honest living. He is putting food on his table rather than been a fraudster or political thug.

One might be tempted to blame their parents for not making money while they were young or the school for teaching us archaic school syllabus or the society for making us believe that the only way to make it in life is by doing a white collar job. We were not prepared for this hardship and sad reality. We never envisioned ourselves been a lawnmower. We were lied to that we are the leaders of tomorrow. What a life!!!

Still, is far honorable than begging. The person who is mocking you today, if you tell him to give you money to buy food or a soft loan to establish yourself, he will give excuses… so, I’ll advise you do your job proudly and work harder because it takes just one second from God, for your life to turn around for good…

Just remember that “THERE IS DIGNITY IN LABOR”
