PIGWEEDS
Pigweed ( Amaranthus Spinosus)
This plant is also known as Spiny Amaranth or Ewe Tete (in Yoruba),
It is a fastgrowing plant and is commonly found in tropical regions in most parts of Africa, Asia, and South America. It grows wildly on farms as weeds , roadsides, etc.
Features
Leaves: Their leaves are usually green, broad, depending on the size of the plant. The potray oval-shape with noticeable veins.
Stems: They have erected stems, with green to reddish colour and are often with tiny thorns.
Flowers: Small, greenish flowers which are usually located at the top or in leaf joints.
Height: They can grow up to 1 meter tall or more depending on the environment it finds itself.
Roots: A strong taproot system.
They are not fruiting plants as well.
Uses
Pigweeds are used as food and medicine to cure minimal cases like fever, diarrhea and some skin infections.
They can also be used as feed for animals such as pigs, gaots etc.
Generally, pigweeds are usually considered as weed, very stubborn and hard to get rid of when they invade a farm land.

Plants, no matter how common they may seem, always provide good benefits, which can be considered a gift from nature. It's impressive how they can develop their roots in the most unsuitable spaces.
