Continue With Your Good Deeds
Your acts of goodness should be what you should be remarked for; that is, it should be your lifestyle. If you started on a good note and then along the line, you turned to the flip side of life, all the past goodness may not be remembered again. This is why your goodness should be something you live with, something you do over and again, not just a "onetime event." The world may be cruel to you, and the situation surrounding you might not look like goodness, but it should not influence you to turn away from your goodness. After all, you are the one that should help turn the world for the better, not allowing the world to make you cruel.
A story was told of a young university graduate who finished from the civil engineering department. While he finished, he was lucky to get a job in one of the biggest estate development companies in the country which specialises in building houses for sell and rent. When he was employed, he tried as much as is within his possible best to keep to a good and truthful lifestyle. However, many of his colleagues were very fraudulent and were even encouraging him to join them in their fraudulent acts. They would quote for a job, then use substandard materials to build it just to cut a chunk from the money, without even considering if the structure will last or not.
When it seemed like almost everyone was doing that and getting extra cut, he refused to do it and rather depended on his salary. His colleagues would mock him that he could not afford a decent life because he does not have money, but he would not listen to them. The job was a kind of job that each of the workers' contract was to elapse after 5 years. So they were trying to gather as much money as they can before the 5 year period elapses. By the time his own five years were almost done, he was given a job to do; it was to build a magnificent duplex for an unknown client. Well, at this point, his colleagues succeeded in convincing him that this was his last chance to cut his own money.
At last, he gave in to their wrong advice and decided to join them in their bad ways. He did not only buy substandard and cheap materials, but he did even use them in the adequate measurement, knowing that it will not last. He thought, "well, it is not my problem again because I will be gone before the house develops cracks." After he had completed the building, he was glad that he had cut some good money, until the company gave him a shocker. The company management told him that they are impressed with his services over the last 5 years and as such, they want to reward him before he leaves the company.
The manager then handed him the keys to the newly built substandard house and told him that he should take it as his retirement benefit. At this point, he could not hold his tears of regret, because that house will not last. If only he had continued with his good ways, he would have built the house up to standard and he would have enjoyed it. Now, he is even scared of living in the house. How he has wasted the benefits of 5 years simply because of a last-minute compromise. This is why, if you are good, then remain good, because you may not know when your reward will come.
It is worthy to note that there is no goodness you show today that will not be rewarded someday. It may not be immediate and it may not even be in the way you expected, but they will surely be rewarded. More so, being good and continuing in goodness makes you a better human and also makes you attracted to people. People will have affinity for you and they will have no problem in following after your course because they know you will also do the same for them.
It does not matter what challenges are facing you or what your environment suggests, always remember that you goodness is an expression of your personality and not what your environment suggests. So do not allow what someone does to you; their actions and inactions, or environmental factors to make you to stop being good.
