The Alps mountain system stretches from the shores of the Ligurian Sea to the Middle Danube Lowland, its length along the outer edge is about 1200 km and 750 km along the inner edge.

According to one version, the name of the mountains comes from the Latin word “albus”, which translates as “white”. Although this name was typical for all mountains covered with snow. In modern French and Italian, the word Alpe means "mountain peak"

По одной из версий название гор произошло от латинского слова "albus", что переводится как "белый". Хотя такое название было характерно для всех гор, покрытых снегом. В современных французском и итальянском языках слово "Alpe" означает «горная вершина»

In the Alpine mountains there are many biosphere reserves and national parks - nature protection zones. According to scientists, the flora of these places has suffered greatly from deforestation, approximately 60% of the forests have been lost.
