SAILING HOME. painting 2015.
Hi,
Back in 2014 and 2015 I´d had a lot of movement in my life and found myself spending many months living in Vienna.
In July 2014 I did a art 4 week workshop with Professor Philip Rubinov Jacobson in the alpine mountains of Austria. I was looking into the idea of spending a few months away from Ibiza to paint and one thing took me to the next quite naturally and I found myself spending the winter in Vienna working on the egg tempera and oil mischtechnique that I learnt under the influence and teachings of De Es Schwertberger (one of my favourite artists and person!) https://dees.at/
Anyway, I then returned to Ibiza for a couple of months and needed to return to live back in Vienna for the summer of 2015. However, I had already planned to help make a mischtechnique workshop with Professor Phil happen, so I returned in October for this. I was in a very difficult situation. Wondering wether to live in Vienna or Ibiza and what to do with my life. Then during this workshop that also was 4 weeks One of the paintings that emerged was this one. "Sailing Home"
I somehow felt like I was returning to my home but carrying the magic of the viennese streets. A part of me found a lost part of me in that city and brought it home. May be I should write about this one day. Vienna has always been so familiar.
Anyhow, here are the different stages this painting went through:
I start by just smudging, as usual, playing with my favourite burnt umber.
Then, some shapes start to take place...
And then finally...
that measures 35x50cm. Oil and egg tempera on board .
I was actually sad to have it leave me !
The workshop... a couple images I found of it.
I hope you enjoyed the process of this painting
best wishes from Ibiza,
