Graphite pencil commission drawing.

father-and-son-fishing-drawing.jpg

A nice client, who finished her Ph.D., asked me to draw a composition for her professor, as a gift.
The idea is that he taught her all these years, and guided her.
So, something like a father teaching his son to fish.

Tip 1:
When using photos as reference, use only photos that are free to use. Meaning, with no copyright to someone else.
You can find free images here:

Tip 2:
When you compose several images, try to see that their horizon is at the same height, or remember to fix it if it is not.

In the photo above, you can see the 3 images I used to compose a drawing.

A gift with meaning :), an excellent embodiment of reality in graphite!

Thank you very much. It was fun to draw.
Mostly people commission portraits, which is hard and time consuming, so this was refreshing.

I also like to draw fishermen from the back :)

Of course. It is always better from the back. That way no need to worry about the two most annoying things: face and hands :o)

Exactly :) But, in this perspective, there are more thoughts.

You got it. That was not my plan though, it was what I was asked to do.
The idea (requested), was that no faces, so just a meaning.

Looks great as always. How do you find your commission clients?

Usually via my website.
I have the same website in Hebrew, so people from my country (Israel) can contact me.

New competition "Architectural Photography",
do you want to know more?

It's a beautiful creation. You are good at painting pictures. Your hands are growing out of the right place.

Thank you! Lifetime of dedication.

Oops.

Did you make this drawing? It's beautiful

Thank you very much.
Yes, I used these 3 photos to compose a scene, and changed it the way I want, and added some fishing rods.

OMG!!! You basically Photoshopped those 3 images mentally!!

Just curious about how many hours did it take to complete that drawing?

I am guessing at least 10-16 hours. It was a while back, so hard to remember exactly.
Sometimes you have to tailor a drawing for the customer. Sometimes they just want you to draw a portrait from a photo.
In any case, you always have to make changes, add things, remove things, etc., because drawing is not like a photo, and it does not have colors.

Thanks for the info :)
