When I went to India, the most impressive thing was when I climbed a mountain overlooking the city. Down the mountain, houses as small as a matchbox stretched endlessly to fill the city. Motorcycles passing around the houses, or children talking loudly, flying kites from the roofs, could be heard up the mountain. It was like the sound of little birds chirping.

Next were carts on the Ganges River. Although the water was dirty, people washed their bodies and mouths in the water, and cards around them were constantly burning dead people on wood and using toilet paper.

This complex landscape is hard to draw with pictures. Instead, it was temples and children that became the subject of my paintings.

When I first joined SteamIt, I first tried drawing figures to paint portraits for people. At that time, this Indian child's face was a good material for practice.
