Zelda hurricane paid a visit to St.Petersburg last week and... not that it was especially necessary, but it pretty much washed its streets. This photograph, which I took in the historical center of the city on Gagarinskaya Street, shows its traces - the pedestrian part of the street hidden under a sufficient layer of water. Now the city is protected by a dam, but in the past, the city always would have been covered by a flood in such a situation, in exceptional cases the water level was rising by 3 (!) meters. All in all, the city have suffered the flood more than 300 times in its history.

For a cameraman this is luck and opportunity to take unique pics. No, I'm not complaining, it's better to have a dam and no floods than a chance to take great photos once every ten years, together with terrible disasters for the entire urban population.

В начале недели ураган "Зельда" нанес визит в Санкт-Петербург и... не то чтобы это было особенно нужно, но он изрядно помыл его улицы. На этой фотографии, которую я сделал в историческом центре города на улице Гагаринская, видны его следы - скрытая под слоем воды пешеходная часть улицы. Сейчас город защищает дамба, а раньше в такой ситуации город накрывало наводнение, в исключительных случаях уровень воды поднимался на 3 (!) метра -- к фотографам приваливало счастье и возможность отснять уникальные фотографии. Нет, я не жалуюсь, лучше иметь дамбу и отсутствие наводнений, чем возможность раз в десять лет снять фотошевды и получить в дополнение к ним ужасные бедствия для всего городского населения.
