# WoX photo #107 .:. the stones
The post goes for 'Photo of the week' photo-challenge by @mister-omortson — week #108' s prompt was: 'the stones'.
Karelia is known to be the Land of Thousand Lakes...
...but it is also the land of million stones. Thinking about the given prompt, I immediately decided to check my folders from the Ladoga lake travels (which is located in Karelia), and here we go! Got something to share with you today.
The stones are everywhere, all the islands of Ladoga skerries are actually huge granit stones, covered here and there with moss, lichens and very tiny morsels of soil. An ancient glacier that passed through this land has polished the granite rocks to the appearance of "melted ice cream", and it looks great, stunning! (But I have already published these photos, I will not repeat ...). The same glacier crushed with its weight and moved many smaller stones - that is why now the whole land of Karelia is strewn with cobblestones of all sizes and shapes.
Below is uncropped version:
Древний ледник, проходивший по этой земле, отшлифовал гранитные скалы до вида "расплавленного мороженного", и это выглядит шикарно, станнинг! (Но я уже публиковал эти фото, не буду повторяться...). Этот же ледник перемолол своим весом и передвинул много камней помельче - именно поэтому теперь вся земля Карелии и усыпана булыжниками всех размеров и форм.
Of course, we did not skip this good tradition of all travellers, and left some memos in the shape of hand-made stone pyramids. It was a family travel, parents with a half-dozen kidz, so we turned it into a massive kidz fun! I was helping with bringing weighty stones to the spot, and kidz were the architects. Nothing but fun!!! and great memories from the past.
Это фото на конкурс. Если вам понравилось, проголосуйте за него пожалуйста здесь, буду весьма признателен.
