Nativity scene or "Crèche de Noël" in french.
Hello steemians :) I visit the local christmas crèche in the church. Entirely handmade by a local family. It's a masterpiece.
The tradition of these ornamental figures began during the French Revolution in order to replace the nativity scenes.
We can see all the santon figurines who represent handicrafts and all job in a south french village in the past.
Everything is automated (not the figurine but all lights, water, mill...).

Absolutely beautiful work, the people put their love and skills in such reproduction. It feels like the figures frozen for a moment but will start moving and doing what they were going to do.
