Venison Haunch

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago

Venison is traditional game eaten in autumn in the UK. It has unique flavour, stronger than beef. It goes well with other wild ingredients like blackberry for the gravy. You can pick your favourite type of potatoes, I went for Hasselback, the Swedish style of roast potatoes. Red cabbage and heritage carrots are perfect side dishes. The pan juices, red currant jelly, more blackberries and beef stock make fantastic gravy.

This venison I get from a farm in the South West England where the deer has been feeding while foraging freely in vast parkland. The meat gets delivered with care straight to your home and you can select your preferred day. I liked it so much that I've got another mixed venison box due to arrive this Thursday. I hope nobody will come and steel it 😂

Please don't think about Bambi when having your venison.

Love venison and the gamy taste. Handy that it is delivered to your door too.Redcurrant jelly will complement it well.@petface.

It’s very good to know that you love venison @dianadee It turns out that this type of meat is a favourite of many based on the feedback I got from other users on my food contest entry. I will definitely consider posting maybe even a venison recipe featuring osso buco for instance 💁‍♀️

We have eaten venison that came from a farm in the Karoo district of Eastern Cape South Africa. Biltong is also made from the Springbok or Kudu. Dried meat is very popular, as a snack amongst South Africans.

Now we’re talking @dianadee I used to have a South African colleague, Simon. Pity they made him redundant. Covid-19 hit really hard all of us in the travel industry. Anyway, it is what it is. So Simon used to go home to South Africa for Christmas and New Year (probably, hopefully will still manage to go this year!) and was coming back with a selection of dried meats. Some tasted more spicy, others just peppery but all were top quality meat. Maybe you should photo some dried meats for @mister-omortson’s food contest 🤔 I’m sure other users would love to see traditional foods and it’s actually great so we get to know each other better 💁‍♀️

Yes so true @petface Good to get to know the person behind the face :)

I’m glad that you feel the same way too @dianadee It’s not compulsory of course but why not give the chance to those who are interested 🙃

On a separate note, I saw in one of your recent posts that you’ve got Pointsettias living their best lives out there☝️What a massive difference sunny weather does 😱 I’ve got a potted Pointsettia here which I take out in the garden in summer. It’s now back indoors but it looks like it’s really struggling. It got colder here earlier this year and there was plenty of rain too. Still I’m the only person in our family to have kept a Pointsettia going for 3 years now 🙌
