Steemexclusive Bao Buns

Bao buns have been a popular meal for any time of the day in China since the 3rd century. I have had a numerous amount of them when travelling around Asia. They are a healthy meal with plenty of ingredients and are being sold on the street, in supermarkets and even at train and bus stations.

These delicate snow white steamed parcels are filled with vegetables and duck meat. The light dough owes its signature airy texture to the wet-steaming cooking technique.

The bottom bao bun with the green dot on is the vegetarian, which I recommend having with sweet chilly sauce. The filling is tofu based and also features shiitake and wood ear mushrooms, red pepper, spring onion, carrot, Chinese leaf cabbage and water chestnut.

The top bao bun features duck breast as a main ingredient and therefore is best to dip in some hoisin sauce. It also includes onion, carrot and Chinese cabbage for even better taste.
