One Of A Kind

I took this photo in Arequipa which, after Lima, is the second largest city in Peru, South America. It features stunning colonial style architecture and a laidback lifestyle compared to the capital city.

It is located at an altitude of 2,335 metres and is surrounded by three volcanoes. Pretty mountain peaks are seen from the charming Arequipa, the most popular of which is El Misti 5,822 metres high, always with a snow cap.

Arequipa is built of a volcanic rock called sillar and is known as "The White City". Its main square and cafes are a magnet for tourists and locals. Those interested in history and architecture can visit the beautiful Santa Catalina Monastery, which I gladly did and that is where I photoed this Peruvian woman in a traditional colourful dress. That is actually what blew me away in Peru - how proud the local people are of their heritage, which dates back to the Incas and how much they enjoy visiting the historical and architectural sites together with the crowds of overseas visitors.
