NEW CONTEST STEEMEXCLUSIVE WEEK XIX - MACROPHOTOGRAPHY - TYPE II: FLOWER
I have been out in the front garden today taking photos with a macro lens of the Aquilegia flowers especially for the macro photography contest. I did post-production in Photoshop. The aquilegia plants feature lots of different colours which stood out nicely in the surprisingly hot afternoon sun, just after rain here in Northamptonshire, England.

The aquilegia flower is commonly known as “granny’s bonnet” or “columbine”. It is tall with a long stem and light pentagram shaped blossoms with five stamens each. Ancient Romans considered this plant sacred for their goddess Venus. Bear in mind that all its parts are toxic when ingested raw.

The aquilegia is a common perennial usually seen in gardens but it can also be planted in flower containers. Over 70 species have been registered across the globe and they are vital for the survival of birds as they provide them food in the forms of insects, seeds and nectar.
