#club5050 THE DIARY GAME: 03.01.2022 Visiting An Exhibition

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago

Today I woke up a bit later than I wished. I had a coffee while formatting a memory card for my Nikon camera which ideally I should have done last night. I put my new white coat and a pair of pink boots on and headed to Shirley Sherwood Gallery here in Richmond, London.

I have been to the gallery before but now a new exhibition is on. I recommend walking over Sackler Crossing on the way to the gallery so the light and sound sphere installation gets you in the mood for what awaits you next.

There is a stunning hand-painted plexiglass and stainless steel exhibition inspired by 18th and 19th century Japanese and Chinese botanical illustrations. The shadows and reflections used let us take in the flowers in all their dimensions.

“Blackfield” is the installation which made me decide to come here today. The plants are made of etched stainless steel, hand-painted with sand.

The artist, Zadok Ben-David, chose to feature here the extreme opposites life and death, happiness and grief. This fantastic floor-based structure is full of positivity with the flowers being an optimistic metaphor.

Such a flower installation was first presented in the UK in 2007. Since its launch it has been recreated in larger scales across the globe. The current version which I saw here today is currently the biggest. It includes more than 17,000, individually etched and all painted by hand, trees and flowers which represent 900 different plant species.

119 people put this fantastic installation together. It took them 10 days in total, spending 8 hours daily on this project. I was lucky enough to have a chat with one of the women involved in putting this installation together.

To take it all in you had better walk around the whole installation and I recommend that you look at it from different levels. You can take as many photos as you wish but you should turn the flash off.

I personally love the colours and the details which the plants boast.

Looking at them from above where the pure black starts turning into all the colours of the rainbow. They reminded me of skiers and snowboarders going down a slope who you see from the ski lifts. The entire installation can easily be seen as the change of seasons from winter to spring.

The artist intended to show us how delicate our environment is and there is no doubt that he has succeeded. I really hope that you enjoyed the contemporary pieces of art as much as I did.

It is truly a very sophisticated way to encourage us to care more and not to take for granted all the petty little things which surround us.

This sounds awesome 😎 I hope that you will be in an exhibition in London this year which I would do my very best to attend. Then I will gladly post about the entire experience here in the WORLD OF XPILAR and feature you 👩‍💻

Who knows? I haven’t sent work since 2019. Though I feel that after coronavirus has its way with us, the art will flow once again:)

Wow. This is how much imagination a person has to come up with such a thing! How much skill and patience it takes to do this! I have always admired such people.
The world is beautiful and interesting. Thank you for sharing such photos.
And why is the video in portrait format, and not a landscape?

I always think - why do people shoot on smartphones in this format? And if you put a screen in cinemas like that? 😂😂😂

It's look beautiful place as love to visit art exhibitions like this give different experience.

Follow too! Greetings

What an interesting exhibition! I love the concept, it's a pity it's so far from my island.

Thank you very much for sharing

You are more than welcome! I have visited and I am sure that I will visit again the Balearic Islands. They are sometimes a bit of a pain to get to from here especially when your direct flight gets cancelled, then they fly you to Madrid where you need to spend an extra night and you are then able to continue to your final destination in the morning. How is winter treating you out there? What is the weather like now?
