There are so many winter activities that every third person finds tempting.

Once you have mastered skiing and snowboarding or at least you think you have, it may be time to give something new a try like speed riding.

I photoed this paraglider over Pirin mountain from Bunderishka Polyana, Bansko in Bulgaria. It was midday and while most of us were chilling with a hot drink I had my camera ready for when the speed riders appeared.

I bet it is a one of a kind experience watching many skiing and snowboarding with a bird's-eye view. You are actually resembling a big bird, not the one from Sesame Street, which hopefully doesn’t confuse some of my feathered friends out there.

This whole area is a National Park and it is popular to visit in both winter and summer. Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia is the closest international airport. Then a bit over two hours drive gets you to the resort of Bansko itself.

It has something for everyone as it combines past and present with its historical town centre surrounded by newly built hotels. There is even a farmers' market every Sunday where you can taste traditional food and drink from this mountainous region.

There are plenty of options for accommodation from self-catering apartments, some even with a sauna and an indoor swimming pool to five star ski-in ski-out hotels. Eating and drinking out is fantastic value. The restaurants even happily welcome walk-ins and some even provide entertainment from live music to bingo and quizzes.

The weather has been consistently cold over there this year with temperatures of -11°C on the upper slopes to -9°C on the lower pistes. It started snowing at the start of December and less than a week ago there was some fresh snow too, twenty centimetres to be precise.

Skiers and snowboarders have access to fourteen ski lifts with the top of the highest lift situated at 2,560 metres. The gondola takes you straight to the liveliest spot Bunderishka Polyana. There are a total of seventeen pistes including a black run called Tomba. Please don’t attempt going down this one unless you are a totally independent, experienced skier or snowboarder. Safety first!

Did you already manage to enjoy some winter sports this year? Maybe even locally, in your area as some are still reluctant to travel abroad? We over here in England even have indoor skiing. Milton Keynes provides decent indoor facilities close to London. I have also been to a similar venue in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

Happy Friday my friend! I was skiing. Not at the very moment when I took the photographs of course. A friend of mine was snowboarding. I saw her later that afternoon. She was exhausted. I went parasailing twice in Tunisia though. The second time the wind blew my baseball cap off.
It is necessary to tie a baseball cap to the head. :)
Looks like people have real fun. Sun, blue sky and of course of they can master any of winter activities skiing and snowboarding then it is both sport and entertainment :)

Exactly @stef1 I have seen so many times people who don't even know how to properly put the ski boots on in the morning after breakfast and seek assistance. Then the very same people arrive overexcited for lunch after having skied down a nursery slope. It is truly fantastic to see adults and children enjoying winter sports.
