My today’s post is inspired by @serap and her visit to the Musem Of Modern Art in Istanbul, Turkey. No, unfortunately I didn’t fly there to catch up with her though I would have enjoyed this very much. I visited the Design Museum here in London. A museum or a gallery visit makes a fantastic outing, especially now in winter with the weather being colder and the day shorter.

The Design Museum is near Notting Hill which is a quirky posh area home to fantastic book and antique shops. There is also nearly every type of cuisine available for when you run low on power and need to recharge your batteries. Including famous restaurants such as The Ivy and a burger restaurant by Michelin starred chef Gordon Ramsay both in nearby Kensington. I love to walk through Holland Park and then get myself into the museum itself.

The contemporary building is home to the Design Museum, which is free to enter but donations are welcome. There is complimentary Wi-Fi and you can take as many photos as you wish. Hopefully your family or friends are as interested as you are in what is being exhibited here so they don’t rush you out.

The second floor which really caught my eye was, this time, dedicated to interior design. So if you think you can do with some more ideas for your home you are certainly not wasting your time here. If you have ever wondered why nearly every single house you have been to or seen on the telly has got a settee in the living room, here you will come to know that Terence Conran and his Habitat brand got it all started in England. He was the first to open showrooms for interior design featuring examples of what an average household should look like so it better suits the needs of its members and even makes your guests jealous.

The House Book by Terence Conran was published in 1974 by Mitchell Beazley in London. It undoubtedly became the Bible of interior design and sold more than 2 million copies.

Habitat’s magazine with vintage covers that I find to be pieces of art and truly enjoyed looking at were selling like hot cakes. For the first time interior design ideas, some of which are still trendy now, were presented to the public with a massive success. The English home was transformed making the kitchen more functional, the living room better for entertaining and many started to think about where is best to have which piece of furniture and making the most of the indoor space while taking natural light into account.

People opened their front doors wide and welcomed bold colours in their houses for the sake of the common brown and green. So it was a revolution which also provided many women with their dream job and let them wear the Habitat uniform with a smile. Conran's designs brought the British high street to the next level and over the years created inspiring interiors and identities for stores like M&S, Tesco, Boots, Next, Top Shop, Burton, Wallis and Uniqlo just to name a few.

So what to take away from here? I mean even if you are not interested in interior or fashion design which is featured on the third floor here and you have some spare hours, go out of the house and enjoy some time to yourself and learn something new. Then there are many of us here who would like to see it and read about it. Cheers and I hope you also had a fun day and did something new.

Hola amiga,

Greetings my friend. The woman in the chair seems to have it all sorted. She is the boss. She is living the life somewhere central in the capital city with a nice view.

I bet your mum has a good taste. Interior design also reveals a lot about one’s personality. Often the poshest house isn’t the most stylish one. Usually people do miracles even when they are short on space and funds. I personally am particularly interested in upcycling which helps the environment and gives items a second life.

Sí, ella lo tiene todo bajo control jajaja
A mi también me gusta reciclar, se pueden hacer muchas cosas hermosas con lo que otros desechan, solo hay que usar la imaginación.

Believe me, this post made me very happy 😍 It is a very nice museum tour with your pleasant narration and wonderful photographs. As you said, visiting museums is great especially in winter. I watched a documentary about design recently and realized a lot of things that I hadn't noticed. In other words, I am currently interested in design, so I will continue to examine the works in this museum 🤗🌼

I am really pleased that my post made you feel good my friend! This community is all about that I reckon. I really like that we inspire one another and that gives us ideas on what to do next and of course what to post here. I couldn’t have timed it any better then as you are into design now. You can always paint a picture of interior too even cool textile designs and have fun matching different colours together. Have a lovely weekend my girl and we stay in touch.

Thank you my friend. The Design Museum made a really nice random day out and about with the weather on the cold side. So it seemed a bit of a push to spend hours and hours surrounded by nature. We better be flexible so we make the most of ideally every day of the year.
