Guinjata Bay, in the Inhambane Province of Mozambique on the East coast of Africa, is for sure a must-visit not just for the early morning sunrises but for so many other things.

The long shores, warm waters, the friendliness of the locals, and the famous prawns makes Guinjata a holiday destination for many South Africans.

This bay not only others some of the best snorkel and diving sites but is also a haven for deep sea fishing enthusiasts like my husband.

What makes Guinjata extra special for us is that we also belong to the Guinjata Boat Club which offers a deep sea fishing competition once a year in Guinjata for ski boats and jet ski’s.

Although the name of the boat club is “Guinjata” it is a South African boat club from Johannesburg.

I am one of those who like to keep my feet safe on the ground. This is however no reason for me not to make the yearly travel of 36 hours to Guinjata and back home.
While the men are on the wide waters of the ocean I will be visiting the local towns doing some site seeing, visiting the markets, and exploring whatever the town has to offer.

Getting up is normally as early as 03:00 in the morning as “first at the beach launch first”. With nearly 100 boats competing yearly you don’t want to be there last. Sometimes a member of the crew will even sleep on the beach to secure that first place.

Although I do not join in the excitement of the fishermen when they bring a Durado, Barracud, or even a giant Tuna on board I do not miss out on the excitement of packing boat packs, early morning coffee on the beach, and viewing the most spectacular sunrises.
