For this week's digital art contest, I wanted to make a fan art of a Splinterlands character that I love and I wanted to make him humanized, since the character himself is a snake, so I wanted to change his look a bit.

Para el concurso de arte digital de esta semana, quise hacer un fan art de un personaje de Splinterlands que me encanta y quise hacerlo humanizado, ya que el personaje en sí es una serpiente, así que quise cambiar un poco su aspecto.

From the beginning I knew that I wanted to make it humanized and in portrait, so I went to Pinterest, which never disappoints me, to find some reference that I liked, since I also wanted to work this sketch a little realistic, to explore a little that style of drawing in digital, but without leaving my original style. I spent a long time making this sketch, mostly at the beginning, because as I said, I had the idea of making it realistic, so the time to leave it well proportioned, if it took me a long time, but it was worth it, because the sketch turned out very well.

Desde el inicio sabia que lo quería hacer humanizado y en retrato, así que entre a Pinterest, que nunca me defrauda, para encontrar alguna referencia que me gustara, ya que también quise trabajar este boceto un poco realista, para explorar un poco ese estilo de dibujo en digital, pero sin salirme de mi estilo original. Estuve mucho tiempo haciendo este boceto, mas que todo al inicio, ya que como les dije, tenia la idea de hacerlo realista, entonces el tiempo para dejarlo bien proporcionado, si me tomo mucho tiempo, pero valió la pena, porque el boceto quedo muy bien.

Then I did the color work, taking as it is evident, the color palette of the original character, which is in cold colors, since we can find blue, purple, turquoise, red in dark tones. There was a super vibrant yellow, which is the color of his eyes, but I discarded that color from my palette, I feel that it does not go with me and less if it is for the eyes, I usually do the eyes in shades of gray and without pupils. All the color work was done with watercolor brushes, absolutely everything, I only used some blending and ink brushes to add some shimmer, but mostly it was watercolor brushes.

Luego pase a hacer el trabajo de color, tomando como es evidente, la paleta de color del personaje original, la cual es en colores fríos, ya que nos podemos encontrar azul, morado, turquesa, rojo en tono oscuro. Había un amarillo super vibrante, que es el color de sus ojos, pero yo descarte ese color de mi paleta, siento que no va conmigo y menos si es para los ojos, yo normalmente los ojos los hago en tonos de gris y sin pupilas. Todo el trabajo de color lo hice con pinceles de acuarelas, absolutamente todo, solo use unos pinceles de difumino y tinta que fue para agregar ciertos brillos, pero mayormente fueron pinceles de acuarelas.

I worked on everything in layers, adding the base color, then going on to do the color work on the eyes, mouths, nose and so on. Then I went on to do the shadows, where I thought it was convenient to do them. I added blood in his eyes and in the exit of his horns, but where the blood stands out more is in his eyes, which simulate tears and is something I always add to my illustrations. So I kept adding and adding color, line art and details, until I got to the part that I love, the white glows. I know there are many artists who say or recommend not to use black or pure white, but I can't stop adding pure white glows. I feel it's something very much mine and if I stop doing it, I won't feel the same feeling I have every time I finish a drawing, so it's something that will always be present in all my works.

Todo lo fui trabajando por capas, agregando el color base, luego yéndome a hacer el trabajo de color en ojos, bocas, nariz y demás. Luego pase a hacer las sombras, en donde yo creí conveniente hacerlas. Le agregue sangre en su ojos y en la salida de sus cuernos, pero en donde se destaca mas la sangre es en sus ojos, que simulan lagrimas y es algo que siempre agrego a mis ilustraciones. Así estuve agregando y agregando color, line art y detalles, hasta que llegue a la parte que me encanta, los brillos en blanco. Se que hay muchos artistas que dicen o recomiendan no usar negro o blanco puro, pero es que no puedo dejar de agregar brillos en blanco puro. Siento que es algo muy mio y si lo dejo de hacer, no voy a sentir el mismo sentimiento que tengo cada que termino un dibujo, así que es algo que siempre va a estar presente en todos mis trabajos.
