Ukrainian Food
In one of his posts, @ubongudofot asked several people, including me, to tell us about everyday food in our country. I promised to write about it and so I keep my promise.
I was upset by @weisser-rabe :-) She prepared cool dishes, and also made good presentations for them. How to compete with her? Unlike @weisser-rabe, I will talk about everyday Ukrainian dishes, so they will not look so cool :-)
In general, if we talk about Ukrainian cuisine, then there is really something to brag about. You can write a book about this, and not one. But I will not do it, especially since I am not a skilled cook.
Of course, I will start my post with the most famous Ukrainian dish. This is borsch.
The borsch is cooked from chopped red beets, cabbage with potatoes and various spices. Borsch does not have a single canonical recipe. Moreover, in Ukraine they say that each housewife prepares borsch with different tastes. And it really is.
The borscht may be lean, but it is much tastier with meat. It also tastes good when boiled beans are added to it. The borsch tastes great with salted lard with garlic or onions. Donuts are often baked for borscht.
Despite the fact that borsch is a very famous dish even among gourmets, it remains a common daily dish of Ukrainians.
The next dish is meatball soup.
I have no idea whether this is a Ukrainian dish. But I am sure that this soup is on the table of every Ukrainian family. Its main feature is the presence of meatballs. The more, the better :-)
Light and common breakfast in many countries is porridge. Ukraine is no exception. Recently I had breakfast with this semolina porridge:
I have to brag that the strawberries you see are my own harvest. In general, historically, Ukrainians are primarily farmers. It is so difficult for us to part with the earth that even scientists hurry to the garden after work :-)
Therefore, I have to tell you a funny story. One day my corporation signed a contract with a Dutch company to modernize a chemical plant. The signing ceremony was in the classic business style, everyone was in business suits, made very smart faces, there were speeches and a buffet. No wonder, a multi-million dollar contract was signed.
When it was all over, one of the representatives of the Dutch delegation wanted to continue his celebration. Our bosses gladly responded and ordered a table in the restaurant. He decided to invite me too. But I refused because I planned to harvest potatoes after work. He was so impressed that when I visited his office in the Netherlands, he showed me to the staff as an exhibit from the museum :-)
Let's return to Ukrainian dishes. Another popular Ukrainian dish is dumplings:
Earlier, Ukrainians had a tradition of cooking dumplings every Sunday. Why on Sunday? Because making dumplings is quite a long process and on weekdays there was no time for it. Now, of course, dumplings are prepared at any time.
Dumplings are dough and filling. The most common filling is potatoes, but can be made from meat, mushrooms, vegetables, fruits, berries and cheese. You would at least once try dumplings with blueberries or cherries... I'm going to eat, then I'll finish the post :-)
And what do we have for dessert? Oh, my wife baked an apple pie:
Apple pie is easy to bake and does not take too much time. Of course, if you like baking at all.
This weekend we also visited a cafe, where we ordered apple strudel:
and ice cream
These two desserts may not relate to the topic of this post, butyou left Nigeria for a moment and visited a cafe in Ukraine with us :-)
Of course, there are many other Ukrainian dishes, but at the moment I only have these photos and they are enough to give you a general idea of Ukrainian food.
Bon appetit!

I wouldn't starve with you, that's for sure ;-)) Totally delicious things, some of which I know and love: I have often prepared dumplings / pelmeni myself; they were always well accepted.
Ich würde nicht verhungern bei Euch, so viel ist sicher ;-)) Total leckere Sachen, die ich teilweise kenne und liebe: Teigtaschen / Pelmeni habe ich selber schon oft zubereitet; sie fanden immer Anklang.
Another delicacy from you :-) Looks like you can blog about food.
Once I had the idea to write a cookbook - in poetry form...
Einst hatte ich 'mal die Idee, ein Kochbuch zu schreiben - in Gedichtform...
It is a pity that you did not dare to write such a book. This is an interesting idea. Probably no one has written a cookbook in in poetry form :)

I agree, everything with potatoes is delicious :-)
I know that there is a Ukrainian diaspora in Latin America. But there are probably very few Ukrainians in Venezuela.
Be sure to make borscht at home :-) I have not seen a single person who would not like this dish. On YouTube you can see how to cook it.
Thank you for visiting my post, while I was writing it I was also hungry :-)
I want to cook and eat everything here))
