The bad news situation you describe is probably familiar to all of us. However, in Ukraine, surprisingly, it changed with the beginning of the war. It's hard to believe, but every action has a reaction and you can find positive news every day in terror-stricken Ukraine. Apparently, the local media feel that people need to be supported morally and are now looking for positive news more often. Most of them are about humanity, when people find the strength to do something extraordinary for someone else. As @chriddi rightly noted, this geoism would be unnecessary if there was no war at all. This is true, but unfortunately it continues.

I don't know if you had a chance to watch a YouTube video of how volunteers under artillery fire rescued animals from the flooded Kherson Oblast after the Kakhovka Dam was blown up. And the evacuation of children from front-line settlements, when the military and police covered them with their own bodies? In extreme situations, people find such strength that they did not have before.
