NERVES OF GOLD
My nerves, golden bells a-tinkling
Sing to my soul the strange symphony
Of pleasure, sorrow, and joy,
That makes me laugh and makes me cry!
In my trembling body, without cease,
I shake the golden bells of revelry!
The Chimera, Madness, Fantasy,
In a crimson whirlwind, I feel Them pass by!
The heart, in an imperial offering.
I lift it high! And, upon my hand,
It is a half-opened purple rose!
And in me, within me, scattered and dispersed,
My golden nerves, splendid as they are,
Are the supreme Art of my verses!
