Photo of the week #88 | The Insects by @manuelhooks
The Nymphalis Californica
For today's insect photo, we shall focus our attention a specific butterfly identified as Nymphalis Californica. This butterfly is easy to identify because of it's bright yellow background with black spots with a few looking like eyes.
Butterflies like moths, flies, beetles and even bees pass through a complete metamorphosis. For metamorphosis to be complete there are four basic stages egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
The mother butterflies will lay eggs on a choice plant with lives enough to feed its offspring. depending on the species the egg laying season differs. The eggs will latter hatch into larva which is the caterpillar we see often.
After feeding enough, it becomes a pupa and finally bust out as a full-grown butterfly.
Because the day was bright and sunny, it created the right atmosphere for capturing this small insects.
The butterfly was not cooperative as it kept flying around each time I got close.
I guess at some point it could tell that I was not harmful so it stood still, I had to take many shots at various angles and so I selected some of the best for this post.
