The Cat in the Window
Since ancient times, the cat has accompanied humans. It is not known for sure when its domestication process began, however, it is usually attributed to the Egyptians around 4000 B.C., who succeeded in keeping rodents out of their granaries.
In ancient civilizations, cats were sacred animals, and anyone who dared to harm or kill one was usually punished by death.
However, during the Middle Ages, they were thought to be familiar to witches, so they were sometimes burned alive or thrown from the top of tall buildings during festivities.
Today, because of their agility and strength, it has become popular to believe that they have seven lives, nine in the Anglo-Saxon world. In both cases, a number considered good luck.
El Gato en la Ventana
Desde tiempos remotos, el gato ha acompañado al ser humano. No se sabe a ciencia cierta cuando se inició su proceso de domesticación, sin embargo, se le suele atribuir a los egipcios alrededor del año 4000 a.C., quienes lo lograron para mantener a los roedores fuera de sus graneros.
En las antiguas civilizaciones, los gatos eran animales sagrados, y quien se atreviera a causarle daño o matar alguno, usualmente era castigado con la muerte.
Sin embargo, durante la Edad Media, se pensaba que eran familiares de las brujas, por lo que, a veces se los quemaba vivos o se los tiraba desde la parte superior de las edificaciones mas altas durante las festividades.
En la actualidad, por su agilidad y fortaleza, se ha popularizado la creencia de que poseen siete vidas, nueve en el mundo anglosajón. En ambos casos, un número considerado de la buena suerte.
