The Experience of Buying Cows for the Feast of Sacrifice

The feast of sacrifice is an important commemoration for Muslims in carrying out a worship. Remembering that the feast of sacrifice is not long, Muslims flock to buy oxen to be sacrificed.

This holiday is commemorated because it is based on the history of the prophet Ibrahim who wanted to slaughter his son Prophet Ismail which was then replaced with a kibas. This is a really heart-wrenching story to watch.

Which, Ibrahim was blessed with a child he had longed for, but because of God's command, Abraham had to be slaughtered, so Ibrahim willingly carried out the command.

However, because Allah wills what he wills, Isamail is replaced with a flutter, this is a test that the prophet Ibarhaim passed with a smile.

Therefore, Muslims commemorate this day precisely in the month of Zulhijjah, which is the 10th of Zulhijjah in the Hijry year. Muslims distribute beef to the poor on that day.

We, the sacrificial committee, make an annual social gathering with seven people per ox. That is, if one ox belongs to seven people. If the price of an ox is 14 million rupiah, then everyone must give 2 million rupiah to the committee to buy an ox that will be sacrificed on the 10th day of Zulhijjah later.

In order not to be burdensome, our committee will quote funds every month in installments. Until all the money is collected, then all the money will be bought by bulls.

In the city of Lhokseumawe, there are several places that sell oxen. We can choose the appropriate ox.

The cows provided vary, ranging from small to large. We just have to choose it. The important thing is that the ox that we are going to sacrifice must be an old ox.

In the sacrifice, it is highly recommended that a beautiful and healthy oxen. With beautiful colors. Sometimes there are also fierce bulls.

In the places we visited, the available cows were local oxen, meaning native Acehnese oxen. The size is not so big, the estimated meat reaches 70-100 kilo grams.

This year we gathered many members, so, what we need this year is 8 cows which will be sacrificed and distributed to the poor and needy later.

If one ox requires 7 members, then this year we have gathered 56 members. Hopefully there will be more in the future, and we will have a lot of meat to be distributed to people who need it.

After we negotiated with the owner of the ox, we only paid a token fee of about 20 percent of the price of the ox. We will receive the oxen when the day arrives, which means we are not responsible if anything unexpected happens to the cows when the day comes.
