"Photographing Flowers Week #7" | Sunflower

Sunflowers are the largest flowers I know. But I didn't always treat them as flowers. The plants are too gigantic to think about them that way. We do not treat, for example, the oak tree as a flower, although the oak also blooms. It blooms, but as a biological species, it is a tree. Sunflower, in this category, is a flowering plant from the family: Asteraceae. No matter how huge it grows, it will remain a flower.

Of all my many sunflowers of the past summer, I was interested in this one, which grew out of last year's achene on its own. I did not sow it, but I protected the sprout from weeding and even put a support for it when it was knocked down by a very strong wind. I tied it to a peg, as we do with young trees.

All the other sunflowers were normal, perfectly round and so tall that I couldn't reach their heads. And this one grew ugly, crooked, and something went wrong with his flower, there was a clear mutation, but that was what was interesting to me.

His "crown" for some reason crumpled, wrapped inside and thus formed a very unexpected and expressive bouquet of a group of petals.

But it did not affect the quality of the seeds in any way. They turned out to be as large and tasty as those grown on perfect flowers. If you look closely at the process of flowering and maturation, you will notice that each seed develops under its own flower, and the large petals surrounding the inflorescence serve only for the general nutrition of the plant and to attract bees with their beauty. So that's what I think, looking at all this.

The faded sunflower is also beautiful in its own way. This Flower can be admired at all stages of its life.
