Positano (13).jpg

Positano is the furthest west town on the Amalfi Coast, situated around 50 kilometers from Naples. Around 4,000 people live here. In the early 1900s, it was a small fishing village. But things took a turn when American author John Steinbeck came along. He couldn't get enough of its beauty. The breathtaking views and timeless charm that captivated him still hold true today 😍

Santa Maria Assunta is one of the most revered architectural masterpieces in Positano. It holds great significance for the locals, as its history can be traced back to the 10th century when a Byzantine icon symbolizing the Virgin Mary arrived in the town. The church has been celebrating this icon for centuries, and it remains a crucial part of local life.

What immediately astonishes at first sight is the town's verticality. The yellow-green colors of lemon and olive groves intermingle with those of the colorful houses descending towards the seafront. The residents' homes are scattered on the hill from top to bottom. The upper and lower parts of the town are connected by stairs, lots of them. But don't let that discourage you; the views are definitely worth the effort, just wear comfortable shoes.

This town is like one of those spots that just leave you speechless and wide-eyed, stunned by the stunning nature and the incredible buildings the locals put up. I mean, who hasn't seen those colorful houses on the side of the mountain, with the sea right below them?

Positano (18).jpg

It was made for pedestrians, and it's a delight to move up and down the town's stairs and alleys. Almost everywhere you go, you'll find magnificent sea views, interesting architecture, flowers and decorative plants, and works of art.

Along the beach, which is almost directly opposite the Li Galli archipelago, there is a series of restaurants and bars. From the beach, boats and small ships depart for tours, and if you have more time, you can take a boat ride and enjoy the beautiful mountain landscape with its colorful houses against the backdrop of the turquoise sea!

Limoncello, the lemony alcoholic drink, is a hit all along the Amalfi Coast, and I'd go as far as saying it's a big deal in all of Italy. With all those lemon trees hanging around, you'll spot loads of lemony stuff, like lemon-patterned ceramics. Just a word of caution, though: that drink is darn tasty, and sipping on it might just have you feeling a bit woozy, like a happy pup with a wagging tail 🤪

Ceramics are an essential part, I would say the heart, of the Amalfi region. The craftsmanship is very delicate and measured, and I want to emphasize that everything is handmade by local artists who undoubtedly pour a lot of love into what they do. 💥

And a touch of peppers for color and coziness 😊

Positano is a little gem of positivity, and if you're in the Naples area and have the opportunity, don't miss it. I highly recommend visiting Amalfi, Salerno, Ravello, and of course, Pompeii, which offers an incredibly stunning view of Vesuvius! 🤩

Italy is one of the most beautiful countries I love to revisit! Everyone who has visited it carries it forever in their hearts, and there's a good reason why! 💯 💗 Enjoy
