Ever heard of Meteora? It is Incredible place in Greece with crazy cliffs and 7 monasteries. They call it Sky Sorrow or hanging in the air in English. When you hear stories from people who have visited talking about mind-blowing views that leave you speechless it almost sounds too good to be true. But then you stand in front of those massive needles as they call those steep rocks above Kalambaka town and it hits you! The beauty, the history, everything. It is like a dream world and it is seriously something you have to experience!
We decided to stop by Meteora on our way back from Lefkada. We only managed to visit one monastery, so I will ll share a bit about that experience. We wanted to make sure we had enough time to explore the stunning cliffs and the breathtaking views they offer 😊
The second biggest monastery there it is called Varlaam. It's got quite a bunch of monks living in it around 7 monks back in 2015. Way back in the 14th century this hermit guy named Varlaam decided to set up camp on top of that rock all by himself. He was all about the simple life and solitude just hanging out in his own little world of rock and quiet.

After his passing the place remained uninhabited for many years. However some years later two monks made their way up the cliffs to restore the small church built by Varlaam. With the help of other monks they constructing the new structures of the monastery. It is fascinating how this once deserted spot transformed into a vibrant spiritual haven! Seems like the monastery, which is super gorgeous is a top pick for tour guides. It is really crowded, so just keep that in mind.

Note that the entrance fees for the monasteries are 3 euros per person. Just keep in mind they have a dress code no short pants or bare shoulders allowed inside and ladies should wear long skirts. If you are caught off guard, no worries you can borrow a skirt or shawl at the entrance of monastery, which is super cool, because a lot of people do not know about those rules 🥴
The views, on the other hand, are a whole different story. It is a moment that catches your breath as you realize how incredibly beautiful and powerful nature is. This feeling is hard to put into words 🫀You feel completely in tune with everything around you.
Nature has this unique way of making you feel small reminding you that there is a much bigger world out there. It is like a wakeup call that opens your eyes and suddenly you see the world around you in a whole new way.
So if you're a fan of stunning landscapes, these rocks are an absolute must-see! 😜

That is impressive place, on one hand like a heaven, very high up, amazing sunset and mountains at your feet. On other hand might be a bit dangerous especially to reach the settlement.

Comfortable shoes and water are essential especially if you decides to visit all the monasteries. However it is not a good idea to try to see them all in one day as there are many tourists which can slow you down further. If I ever return there I will plan to spend at least two days outside the peak season. Thank you, Stef1)))
