Where Are We - A State Of Physical, Mental And Social Well-being
These days, a significant percentage of the population faces mental health issues. Psychological disorders like affective disorders and frustration are common even among people with normal psychological health. These mental health problems often lead to physical health issues. Our bodies react immediately to any disturbances originating from our psyche because our mental state dictates our actions. This idea vividly highlights the fragility of our existence. Even something like high blood pressure, which might not be felt as pain, can be triggered by psychological problems. It can be deadly, causing heart or kidney damage or leading to sudden events like heart attacks or strokes. On the other hand, people who live arrogantly and ignore their spiritual growth may not recognize the illness that overtakes them. This ignorance also extends to neglecting their physical health.
For example, a person can harm their body through various vices (alcohol, cigarettes, drugs), driven by overconfidence that they have everything under control. Hence, our body, as the temple of our soul, determines our lifespan and reminds us of the necessity of taking care of ourselves. If someone is overly confident and neglects their health, they will inevitably suffer. Humans are unique in their awareness of their mortality, with their mind or psyche signaling the approaching end. Absolutely everything, both from the internal and external environment, affects and determines our health.
It makes sense to prioritize the most natural and common activities for humans, as they are life-defining and sustaining. These activities include breathing, the cycles of wakefulness (time for active movement) and sleep, and the consumption of food and water. I want to stress the importance of connecting with nature and with other people, as well as participating in activities specific to each part of ourselves: physical movement and rest for our body, emotions and feelings for our emotional self, and mental activities for our mind.
You might be tired of hearing the popular phrase: "Do you want the world to change? Do you have an urgent need for change? Then start by changing yourself!" But real change can only happen when each person looks inward at their thoughts, feelings, and actions and begins to transform them. This is the way, and our only contribution, to changing the world. Believe me, even something as seemingly small and insignificant as diet can lead to significant changes both personally and globally.
Adopting a nature-friendly diet and lifestyle is a care for personal health, the health of society, the health of living nature, and the health of the macrocosm.
