The music that I love - Keith Jarrett's Concert in Cologne (#club100)

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year

Hi friends!

A memorable concert, an unforgettable master class in improvisation was for me Keith Jarrett's performance in Cologne in 1975, which became the best-selling piano recording in history.
The day had started with technical problems. The piano on site was in poor condition, with faulty keys that didn't work and were out of tune. Despite this, Jarrett decided to play the concert anyway, refusing to search for another instrument.
The concert started late at night, Jarrett began playing improvisation on a theme and soon began experimenting with different melodies, harmonies and rhythms creating a hypnotic and contemplative mood, playing for about an hour non-stop.
Audiences were enthralled by the music, although Jarrett himself became frustrated by the piano's technical problems and was forced to play in the treble, avoiding faulty keys. Despite this, he managed to create powerful and emotional music, a work of art in itself.
The concert was recorded and became one of the most popular jazz albums of all time. It has been hailed as an outstanding work of art and has inspired many musicians around the world.
Today, Keith Jarrett's concert in Cologne is considered an iconic moment in jazz history, an example of creative improvisation and the power of music to transcend technical obstacles.

A child piano prodigy endowed with perfect pitch, Jarrett began playing the piano at three and gave his first concert at seven, thus beginning his prolific career.
In 1973 he began playing completely improvised solo concertos, and it is the popularity of these concert recordings that made him one of the best-selling jazz artists in history.
One of Jarrett's trademarks is his frequent loud vocalizations as well as being physically active as he plays jazz and improvises solo performances. He is known to be very intolerant of audience noise, especially during impromptu solo performances. He has also complained on stage about audience members taking photos so he has sometimes performed in the dark to avoid it.
Unfortunately, Keith suffered two major strokes in 2018. After the second, he was paralyzed and spent almost two years in a rehab facility.
Sadly, Keith Jarrett, the jazz and classical musician whose album The Köln Concert is one of the best-selling piano recordings of all time, has announced that it is highly unlikely that he will be able to perform again after this.

I hope you like his music as much as I do.
