Consider all those helplines, with those squares and divisions as a guide that allows you to make a more organic and realistic drawing when you use them as a support element.
It is very good that you use a square or a ruler and take measurements in the beginning, that way you educate your ability to observe and establish relationships and measurements without tools in the future.
What I frequently do is establish these support lines and proportions by eye and immediately check them with some instrument if I am not sure.
