Herbarium, Liquorice (#club100)
Licorice, or Liquorice, is commonly used in the food industry as a flavouring and sweetening agent as its root contains glycyrrhizin. This compound gives it its sweet taste, which also has medicinal properties. This plant's root is chewed as a natural remedy for coughs and sore throats. It also treats digestive problems, such as heartburn, stomach ulcers, and indigestion.
That seems to be natural sweetener, there are so many natural products that often we forget about. The plant is beautifully painted. Have you made the painting of all the herbs for the book? The style of the painting look identical and the colours that you used make me think about an old book.
Hi Stef, nice to see you! Thank you very much for your kind words. I'm still busy with these plants, I want to have fifty to the book, and now I'm designing the poster version to print. The style is intentionally like an old botanical illustration but I do not pretend to reach the scientific accuracy of those, I'm only interested in the aesthetic aspect and mentioning some general characteristics of the plants.
Thank you very much for your appreciation and the mention.
Greetings!
