Yesterday, March 7, Ukraine informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that a new nuclear research facility had been damaged by shelling in the city of Kharkiv, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said.
This facility is used for the production of radioisotopes as well as for research activities.
Fortunately, the nuclear and radioactive material is quite low, so the damage caused would not have radiological consequences, according to the Director General.
However, we must ask ourselves if there will be a third nuclear facility compromised under a Russian attack and what will happen if any of these facilities contain nuclear and radioactive material capable of causing serious damage in Ukraine and eventually in Europe.
Asking this question obviously produces fear and anxiety.

So far the damage caused to the Ukrainian facilities has been relatively low. Was this accidental? Or is it a coldly calculated action by the Russian forces in order to frighten the world community?
Are the Russians preparing for a more frontal and effective attack on a nuclear facility in Ukraine?
Are we at the mercy of a megalomaniac capable of such an action?

Both the questions that we can ask ourselves as well as the possible answers only contribute to increasing concern.

Even more disturbing are the statements by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who after long telephone conversations with Putin (3 so far) concludes that "the worst is yet to come in Ukraine."
What does Macron mean by this?
What can be worse?

The truth is that information related to an eventual escalation towards a war of other dimensions is received with more frequency.
In France, the only country in Europe with its own nuclear arsenal, the concept of iodine pills that would reduce the absorption of radioactive iodine by the thyroid gland in the event of a nuclear disaster is already common.

Clearly, with this perspective before our eyes, it is very difficult to see the future with an optimistic and hopeful spirit.

Ayer, 7 de Marzo Ucrania informó a la Agencia Internacional de Energía Atómica (IAEA) que una nueva instalación de investigación nuclear había sido dañada por bombardeos en la ciudad de Kharkiv, según dijo el Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.
Esta instalación se utiliza para la producción de radioisótopos así como para actividades de investigación.
Afortunadamente el material nuclear y radiactivo es bastante bajo por lo que los daños ocasionados no tendrían consecuencias radiológicas según informó el Director General.

Sin embargo cabe preguntarnos si habrá una tercera instalación nuclear comprometida bajo un ataque ruso y qué pasará si alguna de estas instalaciones contiene material nuclear y radiactivo capaz de ocasionar serios daños en Ucrania y eventualmente en Europa.
Plantearse esta interrogante obviamente nos produce temor y ansiedad.
Hasta ahora los daños causados en las instalaciones ucranianas han sido relativamente bajos. Ha sido esto casual? o es una acción friamente calculada por las fuerzas rusas con la finalidad de atemorizar a la comunidad mundial?
Se preparan los rusos para un ataque más frontal y efectivo hacia alguna instalación nuclear en Ucrania?
Estaremos a merced de un megalómano capaz de una acción semejante?
Tanto las preguntas que podamos plantearnos así como las posibles respuestas sólo contribuyen a aumentar la inquietud.

Más inquietante aún resultan las declaraciones del presidente de Francia, Emmanuel Macron, quien despues de largas conversaciones telefónicas con Putin (3 hasta ahora) concluye que "lo peor está por venir en Ucrania".
Que quiere decir con Macron con esto?
Qué puede ser peor?

Lo cierto es que cada vez se reciben con mayor frequencia informaciones relacionadas con un eventual escalada hacia una guerra de otras dimensiones.
En Francia, el único país de Europa con un arsenal nuclear propio, ya es común el concepto de las pastillas de yodo que permitirían contener la absorción de yodo radiactivo por la glándula tiroides en el caso de un desastre nuclear.

Claramente con está perpectiva ante nuestros ojos es muy dificil ver el avenir con un espítu optimista y esperanzador.
