Depending on the pose, the ear may be barely visible or covered by hair. However, the ear is an interesting topic and on many occasions, a portrait can be ruined by not giving the ear its fair importance, because as we already know, from the observation of the ear we can estimate the age range of a person or even their sex in many cases.
In general terms, we might think that all ears are the same, or very similar, so it is not worth giving them much importance, however, we must conclude that despite their similarity, all ears are very different, reaching an unlimited number of variations of its different components, both in its size, as well as in its location and shape, with genetic traits that can be transmitted through generations and that characterize the members of a family. This was well-known by the great masters of portraiture, before the invention of photography.
La oreja es quizás la característica más subestimada de la cabeza humana. A menudo, la oreja se delinea rápidamente en un dibujo.
Dependiendo de la pose, la oreja puede ser apenas visible o estar cubierta por cabello. En términos generales, podríamos pensar que todas las orejas son iguales, o muy parecidas, por lo que no vale la pena darles mucha importancia, sin embargo, debemos concluir que a pesar de su similitud, todas las orejas son muy diferentes, llegando a un número ilimitado de variaciones. de sus diferentes componentes, tanto en su tamaño, como en su ubicación y forma, con rasgos genéticos que pueden transmitirse de generación en generación y que caracterizan a los miembros de una familia. Below are some of the characteristics of the human ear that we should pay special attention to when drawing.

This is the basic form of the ear that we need to draw to define the shape, location, and characteristics of the ear.

The diagonal line on the left side indicates the inclination of the ear with respect to the face, an inclination that we must keep in mind and which may vary depending on our model to be portrayed.
To draw the first lines representing the ear I suggest you start making straight strokes as in the drawing below, so it will be easier to get the right shape.

This is the final drawing of an ear. As I said before, this can change drastically. This can be more rounded, bigger or wider. The lobe may be larger or longer, it may be loose or attached to the skin of the face. Even, as we will see later, the entire ear can be either very close to the head, or very separated from it.
