La Mezquita – Watercolor – 21 x 29 inches

If you travel to Córdoba during the summer months it’s best to arrive after the sun sets. But even after dark -- and throughout the night -- heat prowls through the streets of the city like a white panther as the stones exhale the heat of today and yesterday and the day before that. Heat sleeps only in the early morning hours, and only for a little while. That’s enough time for these friends to sit for a few quiet moments in the shade in the Courtyard of the Orange Trees.

They don’t talk much. Then one says, “According to the news on television, everyone in the world will soon live in Córdoba whether they are here in Spain or not.”

Thank you, @art-venture (& @stef1)!

Great last sentence, it feels like reading a science fiction story.
The painting is great, and I believe it really depicts the heat alleviation; the way in which the characters are sitting.

Thanks again for another perceptive comment, ibizaki. I appreciate it. (On the day I sketched the ladies, a passerby commented on the temperature: "Now you understand why we call this city 'The frying pan of Spain'.")

Last summer Cordoba spent weeks above 37 ºC. A nightmare. Your painting shows the only heaven there, probably.
