In Praise Of What Is Absent

In Praise of What is Absent — watercolor on paper — 11 x 17 inches.

Often I feel a presence, something that used to be here, and now is not. You can’t see it, or touch it, or hear it -- it hovers just beyond reach, like a whisper of a melody you can barely remember.

The flame and its heat and light are gone. And the blade. So is a little creature who lived in trees and clouds. And gone is the one who wore her masks with an elegance and grace you remember all too well.

It is like we start appreciating the things when they are gone, the same with people and our relationship. But our memory not only the memory that captures pictures but also the fragrance, noise, sound that immediately bursts a lot of emotions and bring that moment back. Beautiful watercolour work :)

Thank you, @art-venture, for taking the time to appreciate my work, and for your ongoing support. Indeed, it is as you say.

Aside from the story behind this piece, the composition is really in agreement with you message and I love the shadow play for the mask. Wonderful job!
