About Edward Snowden

Edward Snowden (born June 21, 1983) is a computer programmer who worked as a subcontractor for the National Security Agency (NSA). The U.S. has charged Snowden with violations of the Espionage Act, while many groups call him a hero. The American whistleblower copied and leaked highly classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA) in 2013 when he was a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee and subcontractor. His disclosures revealed numerous global surveillance programs, many run by the NSA and the Five Eyes Intelligence Alliance with the cooperation of telecommunication companies and European governments, and prompted a cultural discussion about national security and individual privacy.
Snowden has found asylum in Russia and continues to speak about his work.

Edward Snowden has been a cryptocurrency proponent for quite some time. When Snowden said it was “the first time in a while I’ve felt like buying bitcoin” crypto enthusiasts were elated to hear his optimism. People can also donate to Snowden’s cause using cryptocurrency via the Freedom of the Press Foundation. Freedom of the Press Foundation supports donations in BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC, ZEC and XLM.

Snowden also did an interview with the American Civil Liberties Union in 2018 where called the technology the “first free money” system in the world. “Bitcoin may not yet really be private money, but it is the first ‘free’ money,” Snowden stated during the discussion. In 2016, the whistleblower also once said that “new technologies raise the possibility of unstoppable tax protests.”

Crypto community welcomes Snowden’s bitcoin tweets, like this: “In times of systemic disruptions Bitcoin should be seen as a serious monetary alternative.”
