Recently I was walking in the center of my beloved St. Petersburg and found myself on Maple Street (where for some reason not maples grow, but chestnuts)) In the background you can see the Mikhailovsky Castle, which was built for the Russian tsar Paul I, and in front of the castle the tsar ordered to erect a monument to his great-grandfather, Emperor Peter I. Work on this monument began during Peter's lifetime, and the famous Italian sculptor and architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli was engaged in this. However, after Peter's death in 1725, the work was stopped, and Rastrelli was not even paid for it (the sculptor received payment only in 1734). Then Peter's daughter Elizabeth commissioned Rastrelli to finish the work, but at the same time to change the sculpture, but soon the great Italian himself died... His son cast the statue in bronze, but neither Elizabeth nor the next Russian Empress Catherine II liked the resulting sculpture...

And only Paul I, the son of Catherine II and the great-grandson of Peter I in 1800 remembered about this monument and ordered to put it at the newly built Mikhailovsky Castle. Pavel hoped that the statue of his great-grandfather would protect him, but, alas, Pavel lived in his new castle for only 40 days, after which he was killed by the conspirators. That's the story...
Well, the watering machine is in the frame... Why not? It's great when the city is not only beautiful, but also clean)
