The World of XPILAR - B&W PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #088 - Anichkov Bridge in St. Petersburg, RussiasteemCreated with Sketch.

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago

Anichkov Bridge over the Fontanka River is located in the heart of St. Petersburg. This is one of the most photographed objects in our city. No wonder: the sculptural portraits of four horses and their handlers (this group created by sculptor Peter Klodt is called "Taming a Horse by a Man") are extremely expressive. They decorated the Anichkov Bridge in 1841. And at first only one pair of horses was cast in bronze, the other two were painted plaster copies. And then the confusion began: several bronze copies of this group were made. Two sculptures were presented by the Russian Emperor Nicholas I to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV and now they can be seen in Berlin. And the tsar sent another pair to Naples to the King of the two Sicilies, Ferdinand II. There are many copies in Russia as well. And on the Anichkov Bridge in St. Petersburg, the entire sculptural group found its final appearance only in 1850, although the composition was already somewhat different))

The last three photos show views from the bridge to the water and Nevsky Prospekt - the main street of St. Petersburg.
