Winter Camping.
Stories from the north, 14. March 2021.
In middle of March, my wife, our dog Nero and I spent a weekend in the mountain with tent. We hiked to a lake around 6 km inward the mountain and found a nice place to camp. With warm clothes and heat in the tent it is very comfortable. Good sleeping bags is also a must to keep warm during the night.
In the winter more equipment is necessary. A pulk is great to use, less to carry on your back and possible to take som extra luxury with you. On this hike the weight on the pulk was around 25 kg.
The camp is ready.
Then its time to melt snow to use when cooking and drinking. Nero showel snow eager for food.
A campfire is cosy in the dark. Grilling sausage for dinner and just sit and look into the flames.
To keep warm we use the primus to heat the tent. When using open fire into a tent you have to be extremely careful and secure the primus. We easily got over 20 degrees celsius in the tent when firing.
In the entry to the tent we shovel out snow to make more space and a bench for the primus. That make som extra room to make food and easter to move in and out of the tent.

Nero waiting for the food to be ready. On hikes we use dried meat, this have to soften in hot water for around 15 minutes to be ready.
A great weekend is over. Heading back home.

Anyway, are you not afraid or out of your mind, if there are wild animals in your campsite.

The most dangerous in the area is foxes, nothing to worry about😊. We had a nice time out.

It is very broad edge😊 you have to be extremely careful when using the Primus.

Wow Harald, that is amazing, how cozy it is over there with such fire and food. That is real grill, I can imagine that food there outdoor on fire smells and tastes very good. Nero has very good manner, he seems understands you just looking at your face, very concentrated and cute.

It is warmer in the summer and less gear, but winter camping have it own charm. Every time we stop and take the backpacks off Nero think it is time for food 😂. He is a good friend ❤️ We are planning trips and hikes with tent this summer. Hopefully there will be some posts from them. Thank you @art-venture for nomination.
Nero is still very slim so should be no problem to have some snack :)
No problem with some snacks. He get something when we eat, but I don’t eat every time I open the backpack, even he hope to 😂
