I took these pictures last year, we were going to Olanchito, about 120 kms from here and we stopped at a village called Corozal where I took the pictures. This is a Garifuna village, Garifunas are descendants of Africans who were being taken to some Caribbean island but the boat capsized and they eventually were able to make it to Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras and eventually to the mainland.

They have been established along the north coast in multiple villages since around 1790, you can also find them in Guatemala and Belize. They have their own culture, their own language, cuisine and also their own alcoholic beverage which is called Guifiti which means Bitter, it is made of white rum with the addition of dozens of different roots and barks. People swear to its medicinal properties, i say they are just drunks. I have tasted it and it does live up to its name.

This is the first time I am dropping some photos for this contest, I will certainly be taking beach photos from now on.
